On Saturday, February 28th, 2009 at 11:45am, OLGC's 7th/8th grade boys coached by John Zielinski took the basketball court at St. Alphonsus and readied themselves to play against St. Alberts for the final game of the 2009 CYO Region-11 NIT Tournament.  OLGC took the court determined to finish the season with a trophy to bring back to the parish.  St. Alberts was NO match for OLGC's fast break running game lead by OLGC all-star guard Christian Kinney, speedy guard Shane Zielinski, and speedy forward Mike Rubin.  St. Albert also could not handle OLGC's strong physical inside play spearheaded by all-star center Robert Gallagher and forwards Nick Homyn, JP Rosney, and Patrick Bonner.  This foursome limited St. Alberts to only 4 points inside the paint.  In the end, OLGC took the lead early, never looked back, and ran away with the game winning 37-26 led by high scorers Nick Homyn and Shane Zielinski, each with 11 points.  Rounding off the rest of the scoring was Christian Kinney with 6, Robert Gallagher with 5, and Mike Rubin and Patrick Bonner each with a bucket.  Zielinski's OLGC team ended the season with record of 16-wins and 4-losses.  Congratulations guys on a job well done!
